Student Voices from GIA

Looking for a school where students can explore interests, build confidence, and try new things? Global Intermediate Academy (GIA) serves students in grades 4–8 with strong academics and hands-on learning designed just for upper elementary and middle school learners.


Seventh and eighth graders can also choose from a wide range of Career and Technical Education-style electives, from forensics sciences and construction, to coaching and film production. These classes give students the chance to discover what excites them while learning from supportive teachers in a welcoming community.

Career and Technical Education Fashion Class

Students in Ms. Dusenbery’s middle school Fashion Class, part of our Career and Technical Education (CTE) program, had a special visit from celebrity stylist and designer Fresh Sam!

Fresh Sam is a Denver-based sustainable fashion designer, stylist, instructor, and multidisciplinary artist whose work bridges fashion, art, and activism. With more than a decade of experience, she has styled and designed for artists such as The Pharcyde, Ashanti, and Smino, and collaborated with major brands including Netflix, The GRAMMYs, Puma, and the City of Denver.

During her visit, students shared their own fashion sketches, asked questions about her creative journey, and learned how to design mood boards and experiment with fabrics and textures. Sam encouraged students to express themselves through sustainability and style, showing them that fashion can be both artful and impactful.

Ms. Dusenbery’s Fashion class introduces students to the fundamentals of the fashion world, from sketching and draping to problem-solving, communication, and measuring skills. The program will return this spring, offering more students the chance to continue exploring their creativity and design talents.

Please be advised, the first day of school for GIA students is Tuesday, August 12 (for 4th-7th grade students) and Wednesday, August 13 (for 8th grade students). We can't wait to see you!

Global Intermediate Academy Culture Fair

Today at Global Intermediate Academy, students showcased countries around the World in their Culture Fair!

Students worked together in their homerooms and advisories for the past month, selecting a country to research and learn about. They studied their heritage, languages, imports, exports, government, and music!

As part of the Culture Fair, students also worked with staff and their families to make culinary dishes representing their country. From El Salvador to Switzerland, there were many tasty treats to try out!

Huge shoutout to GIA families for all their help in making this event happen!

Dia de los Muertos Skulls in art class!

Students in Ms. Alicia Molinaro’s art class at Global Intermediate Academy created a Dia De Los Muertos experience, complete with sugar skulls, marigolds, and an ofrenda.

Welcome to Global Intermediate Academy!

Global Intermediate Academy is an internationally-focused school on the Broadway Campus. Students have access to courses in design technology, physical education, visual arts, and performing arts. Students also participate in a variety of athletic and academic clubs, including Mapleton’s only chapter of the National Junior Honor Society. Academic success is made possible by strong parent support and community engagement. GIA's staff work alongside parents in making learning meaningful for students, and helping students realize and celebrate their contributions to the world by continuing to ask the question, “How are you taking action today?”
